Guest Blogger Kassi with Truly Lovely

Hello all you FABULOUS AliLilly readers!!!

I am SO excited to be guest posting for the AMAZING Ami while she is making her BIG move back to TX!
I am also SO sad to be losing my AZ bloggie bestie...
BUT this blog world is so great that instead of losing her I'm simply trading and AZ bestie for a TX bestie!!!
Love ya Ami!!! :)

You may have seen me floating around here before...
So it's a pleasure to be able to share with you all once again!

In case you missed my first guest post here, I'm Kassi.
I blog over at Truly Lovely...
A blog about all things I consider to be truly lovely. :)
Truly Lovely

I'd like to share my recent discovery with you.

Maybe I'm the last one to know, but if not, you've gotta check out this cool website called Wordle.

It lets you enter either a paragraph of text, a website/blog/any other url and then makes a word cloud from the most used words within what you provided.

For example, I made a wordle using the Truly Lovely blog URL.

COOL, right?
The site chooses the most used words and creates your word cloud.
From there you can customize the colors, shape, and even remove words to make it your own.
Then you can print or share it as you please. :)

A Wordle made from my wedding blog, My Road to Mrs.

You could frame a custom word cloud to be used as wall art, as a gift, or even to label random items!
I made a Wordle from my work website and framed it to display in my office!
Check back on Truly Lovely in awhile if you'd like to see that post!

I think I might frame my blog wordles as wall decoration for my craft room! :)
The ideas are endless!!!

*Wordle does not know who I am or care I'm sure...
This is just a fun idea I found and wanted to share with others. :)

So... Wordle away friends!!!
I would love to hear about what you create!!!
Hope you'll pop over by Truly Lovely for a visit sometime! :)

And good luck to Ami and the family as the make the big move!!

Have a lovely day!

Thanks Kassi!!! YOU rock mama! :)

How To: Macrame

If you saw my DIY 4th of July Door Hanger post then you saw that I mentioned posting a tutorial on how to macrame.  Well, HERE IT IS! :)

It's super simple to do.  And with summer JUST arriving (although it's felt like summer in PHX since February!) it's the perfect time to learn how to make cute summer hemp necklaces, bracelets and anklets.  I first learned how to make these while I was pregnant and on bed rest with Alie.

First, knot the ends with or without a loop.  I've learned that the loop at the end really doesn't matter as the ends are always tied.  You can start with 3 strings.  You'll need about 5 yards split in half for a necklace, 3 for a bracelet or anklet.

Now, cross one end over the other in front of the middle string.

Pull it behind the other two strings

Then pull it through the other side.  This is a basic half knot.

It should look like this

and pull

For a half knot twist hemp necklace/bracelet/anklet keep knotting this way.  Same string same side each time.

It will begin to look like this.

For a square knotted hemp necklace/bracelet/anklet make sure you take the opposite string each time you knot.

These are some different ways to add beads.

You can add large beads to the middle.

Smaller beads to the other side stings with a half knot twist.

Medium sized beads in the middle with a square knot.

Here are a few more pieces I've made.

Large beaded half knot twist necklace with square knots in between the beads.

Braided hemp necklace with square knots in between the beads.

Half knot twist hemp bracelet.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Super Easy Patriotic Banner

Have you seen the Awesome Patriotic Banner at Madigan Made?  It was the inspiration behind this banner.

First, I inconspicuously collected some paint chip samples!

I traced and cut stars in 3 different sizes.

Glued them together.

Then I hot glued them onto some twine.

I played around with different ways to hang it.

 Simple and cute right?
